General rules

The general ruleset applies to all video game events at Pokémon society, including but not exclusive to tournaments and gym challenges.

1. Game cards

Nintendo Switch games currently used for video game series competitive battles (unless otherwise stated) are Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

For all Pokémon society competitive battles your game must be:

• An official and unaltered version which is either physical or an eShop download.

• Not affected by any cheats or cheat codes.

• Updated to the latest version of the software.

This clause does not apply to Pokémon Showdown battles.

2. Game systems

Game systems should be:

• An official game system within the Nintendo Switch™️, Nintendo 3DS™️ or Nintendo 2DS™️ family.

• Running the official latest version of their operating system (in order to ensure system-to-system connections work as intended).

• Free from software enhancements such as Homebrew or similar (Nor can this software be stored on the system’s SD card).

• Not connected to any other devices except wired headphones and controllers/joycons, Wi-Fi networks or competitors’ consoles.

Players are responsible for:

• Providing their own AC adapter.

• Ensuring their systems have sufficient power.

This clause does not apply to Pokémon Showdown battles.

3. Pokémon, Items and Moves

Please check our discord server for information on allowed items, Pokémon and moves for the tournament you want to play in.

4. Pokémon teams

You may only use one team throughout the full duration of a tournament. Pokémon and item switches are not permitted at any time during the tournament after the first battle has started.

5. Play restrictions

If a connection issue or game error arises during a match, the result will be decided by the tournament organiser or the match will be re-run.

Players must not power off their system, remove their game card or close the game environment during a match.

6. Penalties

Penalties for not complying with the rules range from a warning to disqualification, any action taken is decided by the tournament organiser. Serious cases may lead to disqualification from future tournaments and/or events.

All rules are subject to change, any and all decisions related to the rules are decided by the tournament organiser.

Tournament rules

Alphabet Tournament

The format of this tournament is 6v6 singles in Smogon’s OU Tier.

In this tournament, the six members of your team must have names that begin with consecutive letters of the English alphabet. 

Mega Evolutions count for their non-Mega counterpart, for example, Mega Audino belongs to A.

Alolan forms count for their Kantonian forms, for example, Alolan Raticate belongs to R.
